Crowns are basically caps made out of porcelain or synthetic resins that completely encompass a tooth or implant post to restore the function and appearance to its original state.
Crowns are successfully used for numerous reasons. Some of the main reasons for needing a crown are preventing cracked teeth from becoming worse, to anchor bridges and to fix large existing fillings when they are no longer serving their purpose
Crowns are attached to your existing tooth by reducing your tooth enough to cement the crown on top of.
Thanks to Dr. Joboulian’s new CEREC System, we are now equipped to provide our patients with one day crowns! This means less of your valuable time is wasted and you no longer have to wear a temporary if you choose to have a tooth colored crown made.
We still offer our patients gold crowns and porcelain fussed to gold crowns with the same great quality we always have. These crowns are done in two appointments with a three week span. At your first appointment we will take impressions. With these impressions we cast a mold of your mouth so we can replicate an exact tooth and bite. Once the impressions are done we will reshape your tooth by reducing it enough to cement the crown on top of it, preparing you for when your crown is ready. To end this appointment a natural looking temporary crown will be placed over the reshaped tooth. Three weeks later when your crown is back from the lab it is permanently cemented in.
To care for your crowns, use the same dental hygiene you practice on the rest of your teeth. It is important to make sure you floss and brush regularly.
